The Vet (Wing/Nail Clipping):
We take our conures to the vet twice a year to have their wings and nails clipped. We have found that even with the concrete petch the nails still grow to long. Long nails can catch in toys, parts of the cage etc, and injure the bird when he trys to free himself. Having their wings clipped seems to make them more manageable. We do not allow our birds to fly around the house. Conures can be easily startled by a door bell or phone ringing, or the tv flashing a bright color, and will fly off your shoulder into the window or wall. This can lead to broken blood feathers, or worse. Frinch the finch broke his leg when he got his toe nail caught in the sliding cage door.
