Bird Behavior (Diet): Make sure you introduce your conure to fresh foods. An all seed diet is unhealthy for any bird, especially sunflower seeds! We usually give them a dish of seeds, without sunflower seeds, and a dish with vegetables, on a bed of brown rice or pasta. They also like bread, fruits, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, yogurt, and oatmeal. For an occasional treat we also give a small piece of cheese or egg. We change the water every day for our birds using bottled water. Do not trust water out of the tap for birds. Also there is disagreement on whether grit is necessary for birds in captivity. To be on the safe side I do not give my birds grit at all.
